Quick Search via the Search Bar
The search bar in the mDocs+ system is a powerful tool for fast and precise information retrieval. It supports advanced full-text search, autocomplete of terms, search by document content and attachments, as well as the use of special search operators.
The modern-designed search bar is available in the top bar of the system, no matter where in the system you currently are.
Starting a search
To perform a search, follow these steps:
- Click on the search bar, located at the top of the screen.
- Enter a search term (e.g. document number, customer name, keyword from the content, etc.) in the first field "Enter your query". In the adjacent second field, optionally select an additional search criterion. The default value is set to search across all active records or documents; if needed, select another value from the list (e.g. document type or module). If you want to search by attachments, select Attachments By Content in this field. To search within PDF attachments, the attachment must be a searchable PDF (PDF Searchable), i.e. a PDF file that has undergone optical character recognition (OCR), which enables text search.
- As you type your search string, a list of suggestions is displayed in real time.
The system will display results, sorted by relevance, item type (document, case, task, etc.) and date.
Advanced search features
The mDocs+ search bar supports numerous advanced search options:
Full-text search
Enables searching the entire content of documents, including the text of PDF, Word files and other supported formats. Useful when searching for documents where the title or metadata is unknown, but you know keywords from the content.
Autocomplete
As you type, the system suggests possible matches or terms that are in the database. This helps you enter data faster and reduces errors.
Wildcard search
- Use
*to search for an exact string of characters (e.g.*invoice*finds only "invoice"). - Use
?to replace a single character (e.g.r?ckfinds "rack" and "rock", if it exists).
Searching within a module
You can perform a search via the search bar, as described in the first section above, Starting a search, but you can also search directly within an individual module. More about search options directly within a module can be found in the Document List (hitlist) chapter.
Tips for effective searching
- If you are searching for an exact phrase, enclose it in quotation marks (e.g.
"employment contract"). - Use several keywords to narrow down the results (e.g.
invoice 2024 March). - Use the second field with the list of modules, and search only by attachment content.
